MV for 前世情人Lover From The Past and Hito FM press conference

The countdown to Jay's new MV had begun with this photo which his official FB Page released during the day of 29 May 2016, with the message to fans to hurry home to listen to the new song.

Lots of guessing games were going on.
Would it be a song for Hannah? Or Hathaway? Or both?
Would he feature any other usual suspects viz Ah Du, Nini, Darren.....?

Well, all was revealed at midnight when the MV was released and wow!

Watch and listen to the very end:

I could almost hear all the squeals of delight and outbursts of "AWW! So sweet!!!" throughout the Jay Chou fandom as one and all revelled in a song which began life as a little ditty 'played' by Hathaway at the tender age of 4 months!

Remember this video which Hannah had posted?

https://www.facebook.com/HannahIFC/videos/905936712834418/

Fans and Hannah had nudged him to improvise a song from those random notes so he dutifully listened to the whole snippet and realised he could do exactly that.....not surprising as he has been known to churn out a whole piece of music just based on 3 random notes...!

He decided to ask Huang Junlang (who wrote lyrics for songs like Twilight's Chapter 7, In The Name Of The Father) to contribute the lyrics for this song, focusing on a father's love.
I'd say he did a wonderful job, with deeply meaningful verses which express a father's feelings amazingly.
Even more amazing was my friend, Audrey's translation on the spot for those of us who do not read Chinese so well (or at all!).
Well, not quite on the spot.
She worked on it way past her bedtime and even came up with a beautiful background to put the lyrics on.
Thank you so much, Audrey!

有个女孩叫Hathaway
在她四个月时
弹了一段旋律
我引以为傲
她。。是我女儿

"There is a girl, her name is Hathaway.
When she was four months old, she played a melody.
I am so proud of her.
She...is my daughter."

Heart melts at those words!

I consider this one of Jay's more surreal and artistic MVs, with its deviation from the usual depiction of people in situational dramas or singing and dancing.
The melody and mood of the song is brought out perfectly by the shadow images flowing seamlessly through with Huang Junlang's poetic lyrics prominently displayed, but not so much as to be obstrusive.

Needless to say, I replayed the MV at least 20 times before I reluctantly decided that sleep was important too and I had to work the next day!

Jay spoke about the MV at the Hito press conference on 30 May 2016.
Some interesting soundbites:
"She (Hathaway) just played it randomly. I am the talented one."
"Will I cry at her wedding? Unlikely."
"She is credited in the MV. Otherwise she might sue me in future."
"I want her to think I'm DIAO when she is grown up."

He is due to attend the awards ceremony on 5 June and says he will release another new song/MV next week. Can't wait!

Updates: NYSM2; eSports; China Super Vocal

Then I saw Jay!

On the panels at Lido Shaw in Singapore last week!

And a new NYSM2 poster!

Of course, I only had eyes for this handsome fellow.....who supposedly only has a minor role; yet his name is right up there with the other stars in the movie.

Hell....I'm not complaining!

                                                                        *********

The major Jay update would be his involvement in eSports viz League of Legends.

                                                                           ***************

In other news, there seems to be some sort of legal battle being waged between the Dutch organiser of The Voice and the Chinese side.
In any case, I don't think it has anything to do with Jay.

We'll just have to wait and see!

Let's end with some delicious pics:

Fringe?

Or no fringe??

Jay Chou and Kobe Bryant: Two Kings

One is the King of Mandopop.
One is/was the King of the Basketball Court.
The former has long been an avid basketballer and had even dreamed of playing professionally; sadly his lack of height soon put paid to that....for which I am grateful as this blog would otherwise not exist.

The other King, of course is Kobe Bryant who retired from professional basketball on 13 April 2016, at the age of 37 and after 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Read about his career here:

http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/la-sp-kobe-farewell-plaschke-20160413-column.html

Apart from being a huge star in his home country, Kobe has visited China every year since 2006, to promote the game and connect with his multitude of of fans there who revere him even more than Yao Ming!

Read more about his China connection in the links below:

http://www.scmp.com/sport/other-sport/article/1936323/dark-day-how-kobe-bryants-retirement-has-hit-his-china-fans-hard

Solid work ethic, passion for the game, learning from his mistakes and moving on, giving back to society, willingness to embrace new cultures....all these made him a perfect fit to collaborate with the other huge star in China who also possesses all those attributes AND even better, loves basketball, none other than His Royal Diaoness, Jay Chou.

And Sprite was oh-so-savvy to pair them up in 2011 in the link below, which also has an interesting behind-the-scenes vid:

So what's next for Kobe?

Perhaps this article will offer a clue:

http://blackamericaweb.com/2016/02/28/whats-next-for-kobe-bryant/

Meanwhile, it's back to Jay who at 37, is hard at work juggling work and family as he just performed at yet another all-stars concert in China yesterday:

Will Jay and Kobe have another collaboration in future?
That's anybody's guess and hope, I suppose.

Updates: QQ Awards; E-commerce; LOL song

Hi all!

Just back from a great holiday in Taiwan and our Jay had quite a few events going on during the week....but all in the mainland.

Anyway, let's start off with a cheery pic from his Tuniu commercial!

Events covered will be the QQ Awards, his latest venture into e-commerce and the release of the LOL song.

QQ Awards

QQ Music is China's biggest music-streaming website.
Jay won three awards; as far as I can translate, they include Most Influential Concert Tour; Best All-Round Artiste; Most Famous Singer

- 年度全能艺人
- 年度最具影响力演唱会大奖
- 年度巅峰最佳人气歌手

If anyone can give me a better translation, please feel free to do so.

E-commerce

Haha...this is just one of the many animal shots Jay has done for his e-commerce venture.
More in the album on the Page!

Looking dapper at the event:

LOL song

Have a listen!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiV0MhDyNmM&feature=youtu.be

I don't quite know what to make of it; as usual, the lyrics are all jumbled up in his inimitable rapping style but it does sound rather like some of his earlier songs in this genre eg Exclamation Mark and The Era with shades of All In One Breath from his last album.
Truth to tell, those are not my favourites; I prefer his ballads and R&B hip hop numbers.

Anyway, he has said Album #14 should be released in June/July.
Let's hope it really will be so, given that previous experience indicates that there will almost invariably be a delay...!
Being a father has also given him more sources of inspiration and the first single will be reflective of that.
Can't wait!

I shall end off with a cute vid compilation of Jay recording for Kung Fu Panda 3...enjoy!

Three quick updates to post before I head for a short holiday to Jay Chou Land!

Now You See Me 2: Official international trailer

Our Jay appears at 1:57!!
And I'm 100% certain that is his "WOO!" at the end....whether he has written a new song for this movie or they are using one of his old ones....remains to be seen. ;)

Now to await another Jay Chou song for League of Legends, due for release on 24 March 2016!

Good weekend, everyone!

Paris Fashion Week; GShock Live; Meters/bonwe

Omg....his hair! That face!
And the spiffy outfit! *swoons*

Jay and Hannah made their first ever appearance TOGETHER at a public event; and what a stir they caused!

Love the description in this article...."Celeb royals descend on mortals..."!

http://entertainment.toggle.sg/en/asianbuzz/article/jay-chou-hannah-quinlivan-6223624

Trust my favourite couple to make a classy but not showy entrance to such a high profile event!
No overt PDA; just matching togs and rings with smiles and poses for the numerous photographers' benefit.

I am so glad Jay's fashion sense has improved by leaps and bounds ever since he got together with Ms Quinlivan. Long-time fans will understand where I'm coming from....he has been known to wear some absolutely horrendous combos in his 'younger' days!
Notice his hairstyle has also remained relatively stable during this time....so much the better but it was fun then to see his myriad looks. ;)

But there is no denying they make a thoroughly gorgeous couple. :)

Best shot from the event! HAHAHAHAHA!
Was he jetlagged? Couldn't be; he had already been in Paris for a few days prior to the show.
Was he bored? Perhaps.

                                                                ****************

After Paris, Jay headed straight back to our side of the world to support his friends in Shanghai at the GSHOCK Premium Live event where he performed several songs.
